Anthology studies

Peale, Margaretta Angelica (American, 1795-1882)1 watermelon and peachesA relatively recent field, anthology studies denotes research on the theory and practice of anthologizing.  This scholarship considers such subjects as selection criteria, the economics and politics of anthologizing, publishers’ roles, and apparatus construction.

Professor Kilcup’s commitment to the field originates partly from her interest in how anthologies transformed from popular, widely disseminated volumes to more limited academic texts dominated by corporate publishers. Her most recent scholarship investigates the limits of the academic anthology and argues for a renewal of the community-based anthology that serves a wide, diverse readership.
